If your camera or mic isn’t working during a tanooki video conference, here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue in Google Chrome:
1) Check Chrome’s Camera & Microphone Permissions
While on the tanooki video collaboration page, click on View Site Information in the address bar (top-left)
Look for Camera and Microphone
Make sure both are set to “Allow”
If you made changes, refresh the page
2) Make Sure Chrome Has Access at the OS Level
Mac users:
Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera / Microphone
Ensure Google Chrome is checked/enabled
Windows users:
Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera / Microphone
Make sure access is enabled for apps and that Chrome is allowed
3) Restart Chrome or your machine
Sometimes Chrome doesn’t detect devices properly until a restart
Try quitting Chrome completely and reopening it. If that doesn’t help, restart your computer
4) Ensure No Other App Is Using the Camera or Mic
Apps like Zoom, Teams, or OBS may block Chrome from using your camera/mic
Close any other apps that might be using your input devices
5) Test your devices in Chrome
Go to https://webcammictest.com to make sure Chrome can detect your devices
6) Test your tanooki settings
If your browser settings are correct but the issue persists, make sure:
Your camera/mic is selected in the tanooki conference UI
You haven’t accidentally muted or turned off your camera inside tanooki
If none of these steps resolve the issue, contact help@tanooki.io or try joining the conference from a different browser or device to help isolate the problem.
